Both the food and drink were of exceptional quality and perfectly matched. I enjoyed some of the nicest wines that day and was really quite impressed.
Apart from the company, it was our waiter who made my experience so enjoyable. We had the same waiter throughout the meal — a must in my eyes — and not only was he friendly and charming to chat to, he was so knowledgeable when it came to what he was serving.
He was from France and knew an awful lot about wine, which was handy as Brent likes to ask a lot of questions.
Before the mains came out, we asked if we could move to a different table, and luckily they had room upstairs and kindly shifted us to that table. We collectively decided to skip entrees, and wine selection was delegated to myself.
What pressure! I chose a bottle of Domaine Faiveley Bourgogne Rouge. It was good - hooray, my amateur wine-selecting system seemed to work!
My friend who ordered this said she'd only ever had sweet quinoa before i. The lamb was tender, moist and very flavoursome. It was very rich, but that's what you want when you order pork belly!
I thought it would look almost raw , however it looked closer to a grilled piece of salmon. My friend Jenni said she liked it though! All four were perfectly cooked - seared on either side and quiveringly soft within.
What was served at No. Much more successful were the hand cut potato chips: a big bowl of irregularly shaped potato pieces.
They were crispy, fluffy, salty, fantastic. There were even thin slices of deep-fried garlic in there too - extra deliciousness! Chocolates filled with passionfruit jelly These reminded me of a more delicious version of a lamington!
But I have to say the one dish that makes me excited even by looking at the photos is the Milawa duck breasts!
His passion is definitely inspiring! In fact, there would be a Coldstream Hills wine dinner that would be held at No.

John loves using ingredients that are not widely used, and in fact, a lot of the produce are exclusively grown and bred for No.
These are definitely highlighted by the freshness and vibrance of each dish. And oh… have I mentioned how amazing it is? I was so lucky to be invited to the launch of No.

Mmmm : Bubbly! Shortly after, the feasting began! To start off, we were served a beautiful potato, honey and rosemary bread with seaweed butter.
But this was nothing like that at all. In fact, the total opposite! It was soft, fluffy and light! Every bite you take, you would be able to taste the honey and the rosemary.
Everyone loved it and even though we knew we would be stuffed by the end of the night, we asked politely of course! The entree arrived and it was like a plate of edible garden.
The Flowerdale Farm spring salad had a bed of wheat berries, topped with baby carrots, sunflower shoots and almond mushrooms.

See the micro greens? They are sunflower shoots that are once again grown exclusively for John by Flowerdale Farm and these micro greens are grown in the Yarra Valley and harvested after a short 7 days of growing.
